Headaches

Many headaches are musculoskeletal. That means we can treat them.

Not all headaches come from inside the head. A large proportion of recurring headaches, particularly tension headaches and cervicogenic headaches, are driven by tightness and dysfunction in the neck, upper back and jaw.

Treated at Sherbourne House, Montmorency, serving Eltham, Greensborough, Bundoora and the Diamond Valley since 1995.

Cervicogenic headaches arise from referred pain from the cervical spine, and can feel almost identical to migraines. Tension headaches are caused by prolonged muscle contraction around the neck and scalp. Both respond well to osteopathic and myotherapy treatment.

By releasing the tight structures contributing to your headaches, we can significantly reduce both their frequency and severity, often without any medication.

How we help

  • Assessment of neck, jaw and cranial mechanics
  • Soft-tissue and joint treatment of the cervical spine
  • Treatment of temporomandibular (jaw) dysfunction where relevant
  • Postural advice and trigger-point therapy
  • Referral to neurologist if headaches have a non-musculoskeletal origin
