Sciatica

Sharp, radiating leg pain that demands a structural solution.

Sciatica is the name given to pain that follows the path of the sciatic nerve, running from the lower back, through the buttock and down the leg. It can range from a mild ache to a sharp, burning or shooting pain that makes walking difficult.

Treated at Sherbourne House, Montmorency, serving Eltham, Greensborough, Bundoora and the Diamond Valley since 1995.

Sciatica is most often caused by a herniated disc, bone spur or piriformis muscle compression irritating the sciatic nerve. The key to effective treatment is identifying exactly where the nerve is being compressed and why.

Osteopathy is particularly effective for sciatica because it looks at the mechanics of the entire lower body, including the pelvis, lumbar spine, hip flexors and gluteal muscles, addressing the root cause rather than just managing symptoms. Many patients find significant relief without surgery or medication.
